New Beginnings
Are you a hopeful homesteader?
The thought of starting something new can often times be quite daunting. You have these grand ideas and dreams, but catch yourself asking “Can I really do this? Am I being ridiculous to think I can?”
Can you relate?
When my husband and I set out on our search for a farm we were met with unexpected challenges. The timing in our lives couldn’t have been worse. I had just had our son and wasn’t working. Then the pandemic hit and everything and everyone shut down. Everyone in our desired area stopped selling and we couldn’t afford anything, over night, or so it seemed. We were discouraged but we KNEW we were supposed to be somewhere different and we both had the desire to be homesteaders. God knew the desire of our hearts and would soon blow us and our expectations away.
Within a couple of months we had purchased our 5 acres and a fixer upper farmhouse.
So, no, we weren’t being ridiculous and yes, we really can do this. We did and we are.
And, do you want to know something great? You can do it too!
If you have the desire to implement old-fashioned ways into your life, practiced by our ancestors in a time of self sufficiency, you’ve found your people.
What I learned and truly believe is we are not meant to sit back and hope for things to happen. Of course we can be prayerful. God knows the desires of our hearts. But I deeply believe we have to be active participants in our lives and we need to be intentional with the gifts given to us by God in order to make our dreams come true. Every time you get knocked down, you get up and keep going. It takes grit and perseverance.
Speaking of grit…
Homesteaders have grit.
I am on a mission to bring you the stories of the homesteaders that have grit, determination, passion, dedication and many other trades to enable them to become more self sufficient with each passing day.
